Before WW1 Pop Was active in local politics on Tarro's council before it was taken over by Newcastle Council, He had an elaborate framed silk embroidery as a memoir from there. He continued on East Maitland shire council until it was absorbed by the formation on Maitland Council in the 1950's......Pop travelled around the area in black sulky, 2 seater with a small area behind the seat for a small load. It was amazingly slow to travel about with him, it took 20 minutes to pass anyone on the road. He stopped and talked to every on, nobody passed without a chat... His horse was "Old Smokie".
He Called thier house Charleroi after a place in Belgium that was the prettiest town he had ever seen.
After WW1 he developed complications with his lungs as he grew older from being gassed in Europe.
