GEDCOM Note
Born 1727/1728. Died between 1762 and 1796 (Newberry Annals, p. 11, by John Belton O'Neall)-the book was printed 31 May 1858. - CCC Family & History Elsewhere in CCC Family & History, William is listed as being born in 1703. William probably moved south to obtain cheaper land. He appeared in Camden, SC, in 1762. Being Quakers, they were unique in their customs, having staid qualities of character, strict adherence to their church view; nevertheless, they were citizens possessing much patriotism. Opposed to war, they largely remained among themselves during the American Revolution, but some of their young men became American soldiers after the war began. Their ministers preached against war and at one meeting held in Wrightsborough, GA, in 1808, Rev. Zacariah Dirks, an evangelist, predicted a great internal war would come in the distant future that the children would see. The Civil War came 58 years later, but his sermon made such an impact on the Friends that many of them sold their land, freed their slaves and moved to Ohio. The ones that were left were joined to other Friends Memberships, or became a part of the Baptist, Methodist, etc. The sermon by Dirks ruined the Bush River M. M. and it ceased to be. - CCC Family & History
