About William Walldrep
Entered 17 April 2010:
William Waldrip was born ca. 1800 in South Carolina, probably in the Spartanburg District. He evidently moved to Fayette County, Georgia, where he married Margaret Flowers ca. 1820.
William was a Methodist minister.
The 1830 census shows William to be in Fayette County. At the time of the last land lottery, the 1832 Land Lottery of Georgia, William was in Dekalb County and drew land in Cherokee County.
William moved to Jackson Parish, Louisiana, and, while there, he managed to accumulate a substantial amount of property. Margaret must have died between 1860 and 1870 since she was not listed in the 1870 census. William was living in Jackson Parish, close to his son, James Franklin Waldrip. In the house with William was a daughter or daughter-in-law, age twenty-five, and two girls, ages six and two.
Shortly after 1870, William moved with his son, James Franklin, and his family to Bosque County, Texas. He started selling his property, and numerous deeds are recorded in the Jackson Parish Court House. They range from 1884, one year each until 1888.
The Rev. William Waldrip died March 17, 1890, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Iredell, Bosque County, Texas. He lies alongside his son, James F. Waldrip. In 1990, a tombstone was placed on his grave by descendants. It has a bronze plaque which states that he was a Methodist minister.
