William Watkins and Rachel Mullens were married in 1768 in Baltimore, Maryland.William Watkins and Rachel Mullens had the following children:Charles Watkins, Joseph Watkins, Jonathan Watkins, William Watkins, David Watkins, Caleb Watkins, Joshua Watkins, Hannah Watkins, George Watkins, Amy Watkins, and Daniel Watkins.

William Watkins had not been in America long when the Revolutionary War started, and he joined the fighting forces. He was a private in the Maryland unit during the war. He was a drummer in the Third Maryland Regiment, Continental Line, Captain Squires' company, Colonel Mordecai Gist's regiment. William enlisted 10 Dec 1776 and served until 1 Jan 1781 and then enlisted 1 Jan 1781 to serve until the close of the war. He was at the surrender of Yorktown and was discharged 29 Nov 1783.
