William Worth Cochran was born and lived in Cochran's Mills, Pennsylvania.

From Brooke Kroeger's book, Nellie Bly: "William enlisted June 10, 1863, and died a few months later.( p. 530). William died Jan 6, 1864, of chronic diarrhea. (Dickey, History of the 103rd Regiment, pp. 79-80.) His remains were buried on Roanoke Island but were moved to the National Cemetery at New Bern, N.C., Plot 7, Grave 108. p. 531.
