William Longespee III

Son of William II & Idoine de Camville m: Maud de Clifford

William married Idoine de Camville, daughter of Richard de Camville & Eustacia Basset. They had three sons and a daughter:

  1. Edmund Longespée, The Book of Lacock names “Guill Lungespee tertium, Ric´um, Elam et Edmundum” as the children of “Guill Lungespee secundus” & his wife.
  2. Ela Longespée, married James De Audley (1220–1272), of Heleigh Castle, Staffordshire, son of Henry De Audley and Bertred Mainwaring
  3. William III Longespée, married Maud de Clifford, granddaughter of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, Prince of North Wales. Their daughter Margaret married Henry de Lacy, 3rd Earl of Lincoln.
  4. Richard Longespée, married Alice le Rus, daughter of William le Rus of Suffolk and died shortly before 27 December 1261.

Nicholas of Aldithley or Audley, brother and heir, b. bef. 1258. On 26 Jan 1296/7, he was summoned to attend the King at Salisbury, but such summons cannot be considered as a regular writ of summons to Parliament. He m. Catherine, daughter of John Giffard (1st Lord Giffard of Brimpsfield), by his 1st wife, Maud, widow of William Longespee, daughter and heir of Walter de Clifford. He d. 28 Aug 1299.
