Willie C. Carpenter

Obituary for Willie C. Carpenter Willie C. Carpenter, age 79, of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 10:06 p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at Edwardsville Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was a graduate of Bailey Technical School with a degree in Diesel Mechanics in St. Louis, Missouri. Willie retired in 1995 from General Motors in Wentzville after 25 years. He was born September 16, 1935, in Kewanee, Mississippi the son of the late Willie G. Hearn & Claire Carpenter. He married Mary Lee Bradford on November 29, 1962, in East St. Louis. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2009. He is survived by 2 sons: Fred (Lynnette A.) Carpenter of Edwardsville, and LaMonte Christopher (Theresa Kampelman) Carpenter of Edwardsville; and 4 grandchildren: Gabriel C. Carpenter, Brandice Renee Carpenter, Christopher Carpenter, Jr., and Courtney Carpenter, all of Edwardsville; and her former daughter-in-law, Dawn Carpenter of Edwardsville.

Willie enjoyed spending time with his Doberman, Zeus. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Renee Carpenter. Willie served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War where he received The National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post 199. He also was a certified Ham Radio Operator. Willie was an avid golfer, Car enthusiast and drag racer, hunter and fisherman .

Visitation will be from 9 am until 11 am Monday, December 8, 2014, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 am Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Clifton Carpenter officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery.
