According to information listed in Dixie's notes Willis Herron's birthday was listed as 1785 in his military records, and 1790 on his pension application and 1778 on his wife's pension application. He was living in Union, Monroe Co., Virginia on July 14, 1814 when he was drafted to serve in the War of 1812. He served on Craney Island at Norfolk Virginia until his discharge on February 27, 1815. He is listed as Herring on some of his military papers. He has been located in Orange Co. Virginia 1810 census. Augusta Co. Virginia in 1820, 1830, and 1840 census. Randolph Co. Virginia in 1850 census. The 1860 census Randolph Co. shows him to be 80 years old. According to notes from Dixie Minson, Willis Herron's birth was listed as 1785 in his military records, 1790 in his pension application, 77 or 78 in his wife's pension application. He was living in Union, Monroe County, Virginia on July 14, 1814 when he was drafted to serve in the War in 1812. He served on Craney Island at Norfolk Va until his discharge on February 27, 1815. He is listed as Herring on some of his military papers. He has been located in Orange County, Va. 1810 Census. Augusta County, Va. in 1820, 1830 and 1840 census. Randolph Co, Va. in 1850 census. The 1860 census Randolph County shows him to be 80 years old. He is buried in Herron Cemetery, take road out of Mill Creek toward Helvetia, used to be called Huff Road.
