About Wilmer Amos Smith
Wilmer's wife Blanche died leaving him with 3 small daughters to raise. He lived with his mother & they raised Hazel & Laverne. Chalolette went to live with her maternal grandparents in Salem, Missouri. Wilmer farmed, raised cattle & sheep himself. Molasses making & drying fruit were done each year. His mother & daughters canned fruit & vegetables to last through the winter. They butchered their own meat. About 1965 after his daughters were married & his mother had died, he sold the farm & bought a place at Sligo, Missouri. He cut grass at Carr Cemetery with a push mower for years until about 1 year before his death. He lived with Hazel for a short time.
