WILSON WHATLEY (GEN. III. #2)

Wilson Whatley was born February 21. 1775 (According to our SJTW Family Bible) and in 1778 according to Wilson Whatley's Georgia Bible, and an 1850 Census calculation, which lists his being 72 years old in that year. He and his family spent many years in the eastern part of Georgia. We find his wife holding membership in a Morgan County Baptist Church during the years 1809 to 1818, and find Wilson active in Walton County during the years 1821 through 1832. They built a home in western Georgia's Paulding County (later named Polk) in 1833. Wilson Whatley died December 22, 1850. The Census Record lists his occupation as Planter.

In the year 1821 in which the last child was born, he was elected Trustee of the Walton County Academy. He was deeply interested in schools and in community service and is listed on the Board of Trustees of the Social Circle Academy in the year 1828. He was Commissioner in the town in the year 1832.

From the Monthly Record of Baptist Church at Antioch, Morgan County, Georgia, Nov. 1809 - Jan. 1848, No. 1 : "Sally Heard Whatley received September 1809 constitution, and dismissed by letter January 17, 1818." (Removed to Walton County, Georgia.)

From Georgia Acts 1821, p. 3: "Wilson Whatley was a Trustee of the Walton County Academy." From p. 1019: "The Social Circle Academy granted charter, December 22, 1828. Board of Trustees: Wilson Whatley
