About Winifred McGrail
Her name on the marriage certificate is listed as Winniford Freeman. Not sure of this spelling. She married Thomas McGrail on March 3, 1862 at Holy Trinity Church in Middletown, Ohio (during the Civil War). Witnesses were James Freeman (suspect this was her brother) and Kate Wagner. They were married by Rev. Boulger.
Winifred McGrail died at age 98 years, 7 months and 24 days. She was described as a little short lady who talked to her cat. The cat's name was Kitty.
She was famous for taking on City Hall in her 90s when the City required all outhouses to replaced by indoor plumbing. She said, "Well, I wouldn't have that kind of thing in the house, next to my kitchen." She had the flush toilet installed in her outhouse.
