About Woodrow Wilson Jackson

Woodrow Wilson Jackson (born3-18-1913 and died (10-07-1986. The best thing I can tell you about my Daddy was that he could go to almost any banking business in town and walk out with what he ask for with a hand shake. Daddy was honest, caring, a good heart, and a loving father. It was important that we knew that he loved Mother and that we respected her. He demanded that from us. Daddy served in WW11. They had me, and my brother (Charles) before Daddy left over sea's. After he came back we got Brenda. Daddy loved all his family and show us in so many way's. Daddy always wanted the best for all his family even those gone on to heaven. He had a Baby brother that died before Daddy was born, but after I was grown I remember Daddy and Mother going to Albertville, Alabama to buy Rufus the Baby a tomb Stone. He made it a point to put it down before decoration day. I had an Uncle that was married to Daddy's only sister Uncle Leonard was so special to me that Daddy also purchased him a Tomb Stone. Uncle Leonard would take a Grey Hound Bus from Birmingham, Alabama to Gadsden sixty some miles from Birmingham walk from the high way where the bus would let him off and he would about a mile to the house Mother would have me ready to go with him my bags packed. He couldn't stay long because the next bus to Birmingham would be along soon we walked all the way to high way to wait on the bus if it was rainy he would carry me (I was about six) and when got on the bus I would curl up next to him and sleep all the way there. That was the best sleep because I loved him and I knew he loved me. When someone in the community passed away Daddy always took his turn sitting with family. Daddy didn't mind doing whatever needed to be done when it was time for him to serve his follow man in jury duty, pallbearer, or sitting the sick or with the ones passed on. Daddy was a great person a man of his word. He did not meet a stranger. He was full of laughter, and cried over the smallest thing. The day he passed we had moved him to Atlanta where I lived so it would easier for me to keep my teenage son in his last year of school and keep up with his grades. And help Mother with whatever she needed. Brenda my baby sister came from Virginia to help out. Brenda and I stayed with Daddy and Mother kept my son in school and food going for us. She would bring some of the best meals for Brenda and I to eat. Daddy was on the twelve floor at the V. A. Hospital. Brenda And I learned a lot about taking care of a sick person in a V.A. Hospital they ask that we take on some of the hose keeping wow what a statement we went to work cleaning daddy's room cleaning the bathroom, mopping the floor. Just as completed our tour of duty the head nurse came in and wanted to know what we were doing so we explained. He laughed and said thanks but wasn't actually what he had in mind but it was appreciated and room looked clean and Daddy he hope would enjoy the new side of the room where we moved him next to the window on the twelve floor. We had a big laugh he left and Brenda and I preceded to give Daddy a bath we finished about 3:30 we notice it because had some stopped his output. We finished eating a great meal Mother and My husband had brought to us. As soon as we took our last bite Daddy began having trouble I ran for his nurse and he said to get mother in there. Two things happened that day Daddy gave us at 3:30 his great big kiss and he waited to pass until we had completed our dinner. Just like him. But also something else you can't leave out he was on twelve floor and the lights in the window began to change yellow and green Daddy looked to the window smiled reached his hand out and was gone. I believe the death Angel came for Daddy and he took him home then. daddy died peaceful and a smile on his face. My husband said I did not see what he saw but I seen what he saw in his eyes. We all seen all the color around the room then it was gone and so was Daddy. What away to go. Heaven bound!
