About Worsham "Woodson" Seay

Worsham Seay, son of James, son of Jacob, was sometimes also known as Woodson Seay. He grew up in Amelia County and married Edna Seay. They moved to South Carolina (Anderson District) where they parented a large family. Unfortunately, Worsham died young in 1829 and was buried in South Carolina. His children were still minors,

As it turns out, Worsham's father James had died in Amelia County VA, three years earlier in 1826 with a will leaving property to James' eight children, one of which was Worsham who had moved away to South Carolina. No one came immediately forward to apply for Worsham's share of the estate of his father, Worsham then being a resident of South Carolina. Worsham died intestate, and apparently did not get the chance to return to Amelia County before his death and claim his rightful portion of his father's estate.

Worsham was survived by his wife Edna and seven minor children. Edna eventually brought an action in the Chancery court, Amelia County, against the Estate of James Seay, to claim the property to which Worsham was entitled under the will of his father, James Seay. See Amelia County Chancery Cause, 1830-002 available on line through the Library of Virginia.

The Chancery Case names 7 children of Worsham, all living with Woodson's widow Edna in South Carolina, to wit; Lorenzo Dow Seay, James Pulaski Seay, Caspian Seay, Rebecca Seay, William Francis Seay, Marshall Moulton Seay and Sarah Woodson Seay. These minor heirs were determined to be entitled to their father's share of old James' estate.

Lorenzo D. Seay was probably the first born son of Worsham and Edna, being at the time of his father's death over the age of 14 but under 21.

Another interesting chancery action, Amelia County, VA, involves Worsham, a/k/a Woodson Seay and the case of the silver watch with Armistead Seay. See source documents.
