About Wynand Pieterszen Van Eck

The name of Winant is Dutch for Weigarts, Wynartse, Winatje, Wynarts, Winarts, Winans, and Winert.

He was witness to a baptism of Femmetie, the daughter of his sister Magdaleen Pieters in the Brooklyn Dutch church on 12 March, 1662. The 1663 register in this church states that he was from Blommendael (Bloomingdale, in Manhattan).

Witness to his marriage was Aucke Jans, the bride's father, and Jan Jacobze, from Rheenen.

Pieter's name was often written as Pieter Wynant Pietersz, Pieter Wynant, Wynant Pietes, Weynanat Pietese, and Winant Pietersen. In 1660 he was listed as a Patentee of the Brooklyn DRC..

On 20 August, 1675 he was taxed in Brooklyn for 2 horses, 3 cows, and 5 Morgen of land. He flourished as a farmer in Brooklyn, where in Sept., 1676 he was again taxed for 2 horses, 3 cows, and 5 Morgen of land.

In 1679 he held deed for 50 acres of land in Red Hook, New York, an the deed listed the location as Nutten Isle. On 13 Dec., 1679 he was accused of having obtained this land under false pretensions

On 26 Sept., 1683 he was again taxed in Brooklyn for one cow, and 3 calves.

On 02 June, 1697 he purchased an additional 24 acres of land near his 50 acres in Red Hook.

Early New Amsterdam records indicate that Wynant Pieterse was a musician as early as 1661.

==============

Wynant Pieterse (Van Eck) b. ca. 1632 and wife, Anneken Aukes Van (Nuys), dau of Auke Jans (Van Nuys) and Magdelena Pieterse (Van Langendyck).

Does anyone have a source showing their children with b. or bp dates? Are the following correct:

Altje Wynant m. Jan Willemszen Bennet in 1690 at NY DRC
Pieter /Peter Wynant m. Anna Maria Richaud before 1694
Ariaentje / Ariaentje Wynant m. Jeurian/Teuriaen Van den Burgh in 1693 at NY DRC
Antje/ Annetie Wynant m. Gysbert de Hart
Geertrude / Geertruyd Wynant
Femmetje Wynant m. Nicholas (alias Hendrick) Van Gelder 1707 NY
Cornelis Wynant m. Mary Cole (daughter of Abraham)
Maritje/ Marritje Wynant m. 1) Tjerk Rosenboom 2) Jacobus Van Gelder 1713 Magdalena Wynant/Wijnants was betrothed to Johannes Willemse on 20 August 1687 in the Flatbush DRC.

Here are the baptisms. That of Pieter is in the Brooklyn DRC, and the 3 younger children were baptized in the New York City DRC:

9 Sep 1663 PieterWit. Aucke Jans, Geertie Gijsberts [his 2nd wife]
30 Nov 1680 AnnetieWit. Jan Homs, Magdalena _______
10 Feb 1683 CorneliaWit. Nicolaes Wm Stuyvesant, Lysbeth Slechtenhorst
1 Mar 1686 GeertruydWit. Pieter Kerssens, Anna Rencij

Wynant Pietersz. and Anneke Auckes were married in the Brooklyn DRC on 4 Dec 1661.

The eldest son of Pieter Wynant and Anna Maria Richaud was named "Wijnant" after his paternal grandfather. Little Wijnant was baptized in the Brooklyn DRC on 4 May 1695. The witnesses were Johannes Richou (whom I believe to be Anna Maria's brother) and Annitje Woertman.

The next son was named Daniel after his maternal grandfather. He was baptized on 9 Aug 1696. The witnesses were Poulus Richou and Cathalijntje Richou.

Teunis Bergen in his book of Kings County settlers says that Johannes Danielse Richou/ Rickhout married Mayke, the daughter of Jan Van Dyck on 21 Apr 1694.

Since Anna Maria Richaud named an elder son "Daniel", I think Daniel -- the father of Johannes -- was her father too.

These two baptisms at Staten Island Port Richmond DRC I find very interesting:

27 March 1720 "Pieter", the son of Wynant [Pieterse] Wynants and Ann Cole, was baptized. The godparents were Pieter Wynants and Anna Maria Richau (the baby's paternal grandparents).

12 Dec 1725 "Maria", the son of Cornelis Wynant and Maria Cole, was baptized. The godparents were Pieter Wynants and Anna Maria Richaud. Pieter and Cornelis are brothers; so little Maria is the niece of the godparents.

Note that Wynant Wynants in 1720 was using "Wynants" as a *surname*. Wynant's patronymic was "Pietersz."

Abraham Cole of Staten Island wrote his will on 3 Feb 1723. It was proved on 29 Mar 1733. In it he names his daughter Mary as the wife of Cornelis Wynants and his daughter Ann "now wife of Wynant Wynants".

Cornelis Wyants was born in 1683 and was the uncle of the Wynant Pietersz Wynants born in 1695. Anyway, the COLE sisters married an uncle and nephew in the Wynants family.

I did notice that later on there was a Johannes Richaud married to Amy Carber or Amy Carbet. Also Johannes witnessed one of his sister, Catlyntje, who married Joris Hooghlandt. this baptism was in 1696 for Marytie. And then again in 1707 he must have been married to Amy Carbet as when his son Jacob was baptized the two witnesses were Isaack Karbet and Maria Karbet. Then again in 1711 when Johannes Richau's daughter Mary was baptized the witnesses were Isaac Corbet and wife Martha. So either Johannes' first wife, Maryke Van Dyck, died prior to 1707 and he married Amy Corbet or he never married Maryke Van Dyck.
