James "Yankee Jim" was the grandson of James and Susannah (Bonheim) Larimore. Around 1740 his grandfather James came from the Province of Ulster, Ireland with brothers William who settled in Pennsylvania and Hugh who settled in North Carolina. James settled in Three Churches Hampshire County Virginia which became West Virginia when the Civil War began.
In 1826 James "Yankee Jim" along with his wife Ann Eliza Dewald rode by horseback moving to Rommey, Licking County, Ohio. James was a farmer and auctioneer.

James Larimore M, b. 21 October 1800, d. 20 April 1874 James Larimore was also known as "Yankee Jim". He was born on 21 October 1800 at Three Churches, Hampshire Co., VA (now WV); Note in Larimore family Bible. He was the son of John Larimore and Deborah Temple. James Larimore married Ann Eliza DeWald, daughter of Philip DeWald and Catharine Lang, on 2 May 1825 at Hampshire Co., VA; Note on "Marriages" page of James Larimore family Bible. Occupation: Auctioneer and farmer. Although he was illiterate, he was able to be very successful in real estate and farming, and provided farms to some of his children including Caroline and James Kirkendall's farm on Deeds Road, at Union Twp., Licking Co., OH. James Larimore died on 20 April 1874 at Licking Co., OH, at age 73. He was buried in April 1874 at Church Cemetery, NE corner of Beaver Run Road and Port Union Road, northeast of Luray, Licking Co., OH.
