Galama State to Koudum
location This State was in Koudum, municipality Hemelumer Oldeferd.
Drawing by J. Stellingwerf State from 1723
arise The house was probably built around 1500.
History The family Galama was one of the most important families in this area. They owned several stinsen as in Akmarijp, Oudega and Rijs. In addition, you also had the family Harinxma, which were the biggest opponents of the Galama family. The Harinxma's had fortified houses in Heeg, Sloten, Sneek and IJlst.
The Galama State became occupied by the Galama family in the first half of the seventeenth century. One of the rights that were attached to the State, was the right of the swans hunt.
It is not clear whether the house by inheritance or sale has been in the hands of another family, but in any case in 1640 grietman Sjoerd Van Aylva the new resident of the state. Nearly 60 years later, in 1698, the state again came into possession of another family: Bruno Vierssen than the owner.
Later, the state held by Joan Caspar Arrange, secretary of Menaldumadeel, which sells the house for 700 gold florins in 1743 to Frederick Sloterdijk, mayor of Workum.
After 1743 changes the house still several times of owner, to be finally demolished in 1800.
There are by James Stellingwerfstraat signed in 1722 and in 1723 two states who were Koudum. One image has the caption: "house of the old man Frederik Vierszen to Koudum," while the other has the following caption: "the house that Mr Jacob van der Wajen, grietman of Hemelumer Olde Vaert belongs.
In "The Present State of Friesland 'from 1788 has gone to that Galama State already in 1788 is gone," But in' North of the neighborhood, "one has even the State Grovestins, which laater tense merkelyk decorated by the grietman Van der Fanning, who not only home grown beautifully, but also several beautiful hovingen and plantations by 't attached itself trembles ... ".
I give myself still prefer to order the image to be granted in 1722 to the Grovestins State concerned, while the second Galama State.
The house of Viersen resembles the drawing over the Grovestins State. The building even has features that indicate a hall stins. It is a rectangular building with an irregular layout of the ground floor. The floor is low and then follow the saddleback between two gables. The shape and detailing of the party access point to a construction period in the years around 1500. The construction of one floor was the roof developed a exuberant scroll work planned facade. The grounds of this state was not surrounded by a moat, but walled.
