About Yisroel Issar Alpert
With many thanks to Isser Gelbart for sharing this info:
Yisroel Issar Alpert died in Bielsk, Poland in the 1920's. The shoah erased whatever information about when he died, the grave or siblings of which there were 13. The cemetery where we think he was buried in Bielsk was decapitated by the Nazis. The headstones were removed by the Polacks and used as paving stones. There are a number of mounds which were remaining after the shoa but who were interned there is unknown.
He was known as the "Shamash of Bielsk" and his son and others have written extensively about him in the Bielsk Yizkor book. A chapter about him has been translated to English:-
https://jewishgen.org/yizkor/Bielsk/Bie193.html#Page196
It is reported there that he was born in Szereszów [Shershov], where he studied and spent his childhood and youth. He moved to Bielsk when he married a lady who grew up in Bielsk and he decided to build his home there.
At the end of the chapter on page 198 (of the Hebrew original book) is stated in the translated version:-
<<<<
R. Isser Alpert, known as Isser Shamash, died in 1925 at the age of 74, full of suffering and joys, deeds and tricks, giving service for down below [on earth] and doing missions for up above [heaven]. An interesting figure from the landscape of Bielsk has departed.
It is on this basis, his profile here is updated with more exact information.
