About Zachariah "Cold Weather" Roy, Jr.

Birth: Jul. 2, 1787 Virginia, USA Death: Mar. 24, 1848 Kentucky, USA

son of Thomas Joel Roy and Margaret Ann Meadows; husband of Mary "Polly" Van Hook married 18 Oct 1811 Pulaski County, Kentucky

supposed to be buried at Old Fishing Creek Cemetery, Oil Center, Kentucky; not sure where this is....does anyone know?

received this in an email from a fellow findagraver,

have placed Roy in the Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery

However, back in 1949 this cemetery along with many others were affected by the future Lake Cumberland (1251 miles of shoreline) in south central Ky. Right cemetery, wrong era. The old location was in fact in a community known as the Oil Center. It had a thriving community with it's own post office etc. In late 1949 graves in this cemetery were relocated to about 4 or 5 other existing cemeteries. Only six were moved to the new Fishing Baptist Church location. Most of the moves were withing about 5 miles.

I'm sorry to say that there were poor records kept. The next time I go to the historical society I will search other sources (limited) that include a 1970's enumberation of the approximately 400+ cemeteries in Pulaski cty.

http://www.histopolis.com/Place/US/KY/Pulaski_County/Oil_Center This will give you an idea where the Oil Center area was. The present cemetery is about 3-4 miles west out Hickory Nut Rd. Right now the lake level is down and one drive across the branches of Fishing Creek. I'm not native to the area. I am a local pastor and am doing further research.
