About Zachariah Shackelford

Zachariah Shackelford was born c.1745 in Orange County, Virginia. He married "Dolly" Embree, daughter of Thomas Embree and wife Fanny Wall. He died on June 20, 1810 in Casey County, Kentucky.

Zachariah served with Capt. Caleb Lindsey in the Orange County Militia during the American Revolution, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. He also provided supplies for the troops. In recognition of his service, the DAR has named him an American Patriot, with DAR ancestor # A102505.

Who did Zachariah marry?

Zachariah's wife is called "Dolly" in his DAR file. Dolly was commonly a nickname for Dorothy in that era. The Shackelford family trees list his wife as Dorothy. However, the Embree/Embry DAR files list his wife as "Sallie," a common nickname of that time for Sarah. Neither name appears in the will of John Embree, supposed father-in-law of Zachariah. For now, both Dorothy and Sallie will be used on his wife's profile, until more information can be found.
