From FamilyTree
Research of Susan Kimes Burgess:

For years researchers have been mixing up the families and data of two grandsons of Benoni Hills: Zimri Hills/Hill, son of John Hills (Captain) and his wife Jersusha Lewis, and Zimry/Zimri Hills, son of Beriah Hills and Mary Enno. I believe that the book, "History of Torrington, Connecticut : from its first settlement in 1737, with biographies and genealogies" by Samuel Orcutt has garbled the two Zimri's data as has the "Hills Family in America". "History of Torrington" states that the Zimri who married Amelia was Capt. John Hills son. I believe this to be incorrect.

Both Zimris were born within the same time period in the same vicinity in Connecticut. Both fought in the Revolutionary War for Connecticut and then moved to Charlotte, Chittenden, Vermont after the war as did Capt. John Hills. Zimri married to 1st Lucy Hurlbut and 2nd Malinda Palmer fought with Col. Starr's Regiment and moved to New York from Vermont. Zimry/Zimri married to Amelia Catlin was at West Point and moved to Ohio from Vermont. I have seen no definitive proof of which Zimri is the son of John Hills and which is the son of John's brother, Beriah Hills but I believe I have found enough circumstantial evidence to draw an accurate conclusion. I will distinguish between the two men by spelling their names differently since their birthdates are in question.

Zimri who married Lucy Hurlbut and Malinda Palmer will be spelled Zimri with an I.
Zimry who married Amelia Catlin will be spelled Zimry with a Y. (This is how his name is spelled in his family bible and how he signed his name on his Rev. War declaration)

1. Naming patterns: Beriah Hills married Mary Enno. They named a son, Roger Enos Hills. Zimry also named a son Roger Enos Hills. Is Enos a recognition of Mary's maiden name? Zimri nor any in his line used this name as far as I have found.

2. According to p. 90 in the "History of Torrington, Connecticut : from its first settlement in 1737, with biographies and genealogies,"
Beriah Hills moved to Torrington in 1748 and remained there the rest of his life. Capt. John Hills lived in Goshen until just before "1776 when he moved to Winchester and lived near the Hurlbut Cemetery." Zimry states in his Rev. War. declaration that he was born Nov. 16, 1762 in Torrington, making him a son of Beriah.

3. Census record: In 1790, John Hill is found living a few residences away from Zimry Hill. Note that it is spelled Zimry on the census, just as Zimry signed his Rev. War declaration and his name is written in the family bible. This proximity is one reason others have assumed that Zimry was the son of John. But if you look at the census closely I believe Zimri and his family are living in the household with John Hills/Hill. This would indicate that Zimri is the son of John and his nephew Zimry is living nearby.

Therefore, I believe:

Zimry Hills/Hill married to Amelia Catlin is the son of Beriah Hills.
and
Zimri Hills/Hill married to 1) Lucy Hurlbut and 2) Malinda Palmer is the son of Capt. John Hills.

Title: A Supplementary Record Connecting With the Hills Family in America
Authors: Hills, Thomas,
City of Publication: Unknown :
Publisher: Unknown,
Date: 1908

"4761 A transposition of names caused the person numbered four thousand seven hundred and sixty one designated as Ezekiel, said to be a son of Zimri, to be erroneously recorded. The record as originally transmitted to the editor should have been printed Zimri, said to be a son of Ezekiel. But Mr. Leon Clark Hills (No. 4571 of the Gen.) has proved that the tradition noted on page 620 of the family history, that connected an Ezekiel with this branch of the family has no foundation; and has identified this Zimri as that one of the name numbered 223 of the Genealogy. He was of the Vermont Regiment commanded by Col. Ebenezer Allen in 1780; of Col. Samuel Canfield's Regiment at West Point on the Hudson in 1781; pensioned as a private of Col. Starr's Regiment in Sept. 1793; recorded as a pensioner of Vermont under the Act of Congress 1818; transfered from Vermont to New York March 4, 1823. In the census of 1840 he is recorded as a pensioner, aged 77, living with his son Heman at Pomfret, Chautauqua Co., N.Y. In addition to official records Mr. Hills Quotes: His. of Litchfield Co., Conn., p. 184; Conn. men in the Rev. p. 583, and Vt. in the Rev. p.p. 211-234-604. The effect of Mr. Hills' investigation and his conclusions, is that the sub-title to the group recorded on page 520 of the Genealogy must be discarded, also the nine lines including the line "children of Ezekiel and Malinda (Palmer_ Hills" that follow it; and that whenever below that line the word "Ezekiel" occurs the word Zimri must be substituted. If then in the space thus made vacant at the top of the page, a new sub-title, Descendants of Zimri Hills (No. 223), is inserted, followed by the words Children of Zimri and Millie (Catlin) Hills, the amended record will be in accordance with what the investigator found to be the lineage of those whose names fill the remainder of the page."

Ferrisburgh charter was granted by Governor Wentworth, of New Hampshire, June 25, 1762; applied for by Benjamin Ferris, of Oblong, Dutchess county, New York; also his brother, Reed Ferris, and fifty-five others. The survey and division into lots was made the next year by Benjamin and David Ferris, for the proprietors. Its is said by pretty good authority that Benjamin Ferris' wife was an Olin. This information I received from Mr. Elisha P. Ferris, at Omro, Wisconsin, who is a grandson of Benjamin Ferris, of Oblong, Dutchess county, New York.

The first settlement within the present limits of Ferrisburgh was begun by Charles Tupper, who came from Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Thi9s was just before the Revolution, and he commenced improvements; but upon the breaking out of the war he returned to Pittsfield, joined the American army, and was killed in battle. One of these Ferris boys began a settlement near Basin harbor about the same, which he also abandoned on account of the war.
The first settler after the war was Zuriel Tupper, the brother of Charles Tupper. He came in the autumn of 1783, and the next year brought his family, consisting of a wife and three children. She was five and a half months in her new home without seeing any other woman. The first male child born was James Tupper, and the female was Lovina, his sister.
After this the settlers came in pretty fast, and the place had the appearance of a very fine and thrifty settlement of farmers, but in about two years Ferrisburgh had a great misfortune by the burning of their town "Ritings."
