Zipporah Cain was daughter of John Cain and Sarah "Sary" Hodges. She passed away in 1792.

Zipporah Cain was born 19 May 1738 in Martin, North Carolina and died there 30 Jan 1803.

She married Jesse Bryant and had children:

1. Nathan Bryan Privacy
2. Penelope (Bryant) Garrett
3. Phariba (Bryant) Moore
4. Sarah (Bryant) Parker

Will

Zipporah’s will was written 29 Oct. 1792; probate records/inventory after she dies in 1803.

State of NC, Co of Martin. Names:

Son Nathan - one feather bed and all the money of mine he hath in his possession and one cow and calf to him and heirs forever.

Dau Sarah PARKER one feather bed and furniture and all the money I have in possession of Elias Bryan and all the money due me in the State of Georgia except has it in the hands of Nathan Bryan and one heifer to her and heirs. [This Elias must be Jesse’s brother, as Nathan’s son Elias is way too young.]

Dau. Phereby WATSON one mare and colt and saddle and bridle to her and heirs.

Rest of estate to be equally divided between son Nathan and daughter Sarah after paying debts.

Appoints James BIRNETT executor. Jonathan CHERRY Jr and Matthew BIRNETT witnesses. (This is probably BIRNETT rather than Burnett as some say; both are likely connected with Silas’ (Pherebe’s 2nd husband) family.

NOTE: Zipporah’s will does NOT name Penelope.[1][2] Penelope "Penny" Bryan was mentioned in her father's will.

Research Notes

Jesse Bryan and Zipporah Bryan were my 6th great grandparents. In all family papers and oral tradition Zipporah's maiden name was Hinton. However, "Zipporah Hinton" is not found mentioned in Hinton sources or documentation. There is a "Zipporah Cain" named in her father John Cain's will dated 9 Feb 1755, Edgemont County, NC. (See link or attachment.) Interestingly, Zipporah (Hinton? Cain?) and Jesse Bryan were married 3 Apr 1756, Halifax (now Martin) County, NC.
