Zoe (22), a British Airways Hostess, was shot in the face with a shotgun, at the family home in North Riding, Johannesburg on 5th August 1999. At around 22h15, her parents Hazel and Nigel, were arriving back at the house and tried to call Zoe and let her know that if she heard the dogs barking, it was only them returning, but she didn't answer. They found a broken sliding door and Nigel ran in and found Zoe dead in the main bedroom.
As the Zorab family were doing renovations to the house, and it wasn't yet secure, Nigel had left his firearm with Zoe. When police reconstructed the crime, they believed that at least three perpetrators gained entry into the house. Zoe then fired shots at the attackers whilst attempting to gather the dogs and escape into the main bedroom, but she was shot in the face before she could lock herself in.
A rose has been name after Zoe. The 'Zoe Zorab Rose' - Floribunda Copper Apricot, has been registered at the International Authority of roses in the USA.
