About don Stefano Vincenzo Calogerà
The Calogerà (Kalogjera) family were originally an aristocratic family from Cyprus that fled during the Turkish conquest of the island in the 1500s. According to several sources (to be added later), one line settled on the island of Corfu, and this line was added to the Libro D'Oro of noble families in Corfu. Another branch settled briefly in Crete before settling ultimately in Venice, and this line was added to the Libro D'Oro of noble familes in Venice. The coat-of-arms for the Corfu branch is adorned by a coronet and features a monk walking under a tree. Another coat-of-arms, as displayed in Rietstrapp, features a silver anchor, adorned with a green vine and topped by a golden star with eight points. This is the coat-of-arms used in the personal arms of Bishop Marko Kalogjera. It is said in "Zlatarska bilježnica obitelji Kalogjera iz Blata na otoku Korčuli" by Vinicije B. Lupis (see media) that the ancestors of the Korcula Calogerà (Kalogjera) family had a military tradition before becoming goldsmiths.
Steffano Calogerà (a.k.a. Stjepan Kalogjera) lost his father, Francesco Calogerà (Frana Kalogjera), when he was just eight months old. Francesco was the head of the state hospital in Hvar.
Since his father died when he was a baby, Steffano Calogerà was raised by his maternal grandfather, Stefano (Stjepan) Cortino, who was a goldsmith in Hvar. Steffano Calogerà moved to Blato, Korcula, and founded the Korcula branch of the Calogerà (Kalogjera) family, where they would become the most prominent of the goldsmith families (and one of the most prominent families on the island, in general). Steffano Calogerà (Kalogjera) inherited an old notebook from his grandfather, Stefano Cortino, containing notes on designs for Venetian jewels. (Link: [http://travelsdocbox.com/Eastern_Europe/66477958-Zlatarska-biljezni...]) Steffano Calogerà's descendants occasionally appended a second surname, or nadimak, of Zlatar (example: Firstname Kalogjera Zlatar).
A record Stefano Calogerà's baptism can be found at this link: [https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G99C-5RD?i=23&cc=2...]
The baptismal record lists his father, in Latin, as Francisci Vincentius Calogerà (misspelled "Calogeva" in FamilySearch).
