An unknown Cherokee woman married deerskin trader Thomas Payne and had with him four children:
Of the four children, John and Nancy are known to have descendants, some of whom participated in a DNA study led by Shawn Potter in the early 2010s and reviewed by Roberta Estes.
The unknown mother of these four children died some time before Thomas remarried, to Yanaka Ayers, on 20 September 1760, probably in Halifax County, Virginia.
For a full explanation of how this woman was determined to be Cherokee, please see the source.
