This is the profile for the daughter of Rev. William Noyes and Anne (Parker) Noyes who married Thomas Kent of Upper Wallop (aka Over Wallop), Hampshire.

First Name Unknown

The first name of this woman is unknown. Many online genealogy pages say that her first name was Anne and some say that her first name was Mowit. However, no reliable evidence supporting either assertion has been found. She may have been either the Mary Kent, widow, who was buried in Over Wallop on February 25, 1678[1] or the Jane Kent, widow, who was buried in Over Wallop on April 29, 1697.[2]

Date and Place of Birth

The date of birth of this woman is uncertain. No record establishing her date of birth or baptism has been found. Based on the estimated date of birth of her husband, Thomas Kent (sometime in 1612-1618),[3] she was probably born no earlier than 1612. Based on her mother's estimated date of birth based on her stated age at the time of her death (about 1676),[4] her daughter in this profile was probably born no later than 1618. This woman was therefore probably born sometime in 1612-1618, with about 1615 being a reasonable midpoint estimate.

Since Rev. William Noyes was living in Cholderton at the estimated date of this woman's birth,[5] she was probably born in Cholderton.

Marriage and Children

Based on her husband's estimated date of birth, this woman and Thomas Kent were probably married sometime in 1633-1648. Since her parents lived in Cholderton, Hampshire, it is reasonably likely that they were married in Cholderton.

Anne (Parker) Noyes' will included bequests "to my sonne in Law Thomas Kent of Upper Wallop twelve pence . . . to his wife five shillings and to their children twelve pence a piece."[4] This bequests indicates that Thomas Kent and this woman had a number of children together. The names and dates of birth of their children, however, have not been determined.

Not the Wife of Thomas Kent of Gloucester, Massachusetts

As discussed in the profile for this woman's husband, Thomas Kent of Upper Wallop, some online family genealogy pages for immigrant Thomas Kent of Gloucester, Massachusetts claim that they were the same person and that this woman was therefore the wife of Thomas Kent of Gloucester and the mother of his presumed sons Thomas Kent Jr. and Samuel Kent. That claim appears to be very unlikely since (1) no reliable evidence has been found that connects Thomas Kent of Gloucester to Thomas Kent of Over Wallop, (2) the will of Anne (Parker) Noyes establishes that her daughter's husband Thomas Kent was living in Over Wallop when she made her will in 1656,[4] and (3) an Over Wallop parish register record suggests that Thomas Kent of Over Wallop was buried there in 1667.[3] The name and origins of the wife of immigrant Thomas Kent of Gloucester, Massachusetts, are unknown.

Death

This woman's date of death is uncertain. The fact that the bequest in Anne (Parker) Noyes' will to the wife to Thomas Kent did not identify her as Anne's daughter, and the fact that the amount bequeathed to her was less than that bequeathed to Thomas Kent and his children, suggests that this woman may have died prior to the date Anne made her will (March 18, 1655/6). On the other hand, she may have been either the Mary Kent, widow, who was buried in Over Wallop on February 25, 1678[1] or the Jane Kent, widow, who was buried in Over Wallop on April 29, 1697.[2]

Since Thomas Kent is only known to have lived in Over Wallop,[3] it is likely that this woman died there.
