About Guillaume l'Ismaélite de Tinténiac
"Do not confuse another family from Tinténiac who lived in Quimper in particular and who owned the castle of Quimerc'h in Bannalec , whose most famous member is Vincent de Tinténiac" (Vincent de Tinténiac (c. 1764 in Bannalec – 18 July 1795 in château de Coëtlogon) was a French general.)
List of the lords of Tinténiac
"Tinténiac is mentioned for the first time in 1032 in the cartulary of the Saint-Georges abbey of Rennes, the church and the village are then given there by the Duke of Brittany Alain III to his sister Adèle I re (died in 1067), abbess of Saint-Georges de Rennes in 1032, on the occasion of the founding of the abbey.
"In 1036, the abbey surrendered part of its fiefdom to the knight Donoual or Donoald. The abbess then asks Donoual to build a fortified castle to protect his land (it is a fortress now replaced by the castle of Montmuran). The successors of Donoal long will [assume] the name of "Ishmaelites", perhaps after a pilgrimage to the Holy Land made by William at the beginning of xi th century. They take the name of Tinténiac at the end of xii th century.
"The seigniory of Tinténiac was a chatellenie of seniority and extended over seven parishes, with a right of high justice.
"In 1168, Henry II, King of England, waging war against Eudon de Porhoët completely destroyed the castle of Tinténiac. It was then that the heirs of the Ishmaelites built at some distance from Tinténiac, in the parish of Iffs, the castle of Montmuran.
"In 1351, the knight Jean de Tinténiac distinguished himself in the battle of the Thirty which took place at Mi-Voie near Josselin.
"Isabeau de Tinténiac, the only daughter of Jean de Tinténiac, married around 1347 Jean de Laval, Lord of Châtillon-en-Vendelais. She brought the entire seigneury of Tinténiac-Montmuran to the Laval family.
"The seigneury thus passed to the Families Laval (in 1352, to Jean de Laval lord of Châtillon-en-Vendelais), Coligny (in 1547, to Admiral Gaspard II de Coligny), Huchet lords of Bédoyère (in 1662), Coëtquen (in 1665 ), then to the Comte de Mornay and the de la Motte family, lords of Boisthomelin (in 1750 and 1789).
"The ruined castle was rebuilt in 1419 by Anne (1385 - January 25, 1466), lady heir to Laval and Tinténiac, who obtained permission from Duke Jean V to carry out a dig for this object.
"The stronghold of Tinténiac, parish of Tinténiac, county of Rennes, as lord, was held chronologically by:
- Tinténiac family
- Laval family
- House of Rieux
- House of Coligny
- Coëtquen family"
