The 28th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry was an infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 28th Iowa Infantry was organized at Iowa City, Iowa and mustered in for three years of Federal service on October 10, 1862.

The regiment was mustered out on July 31, 1865.

A total of 1195 men served in the 28th Iowa during its existence. It lost 6 officers and 76 enlisted men to combat action, and 3 officers and 186 enlisted men to disease, for a total of 271 fatalities.
