PURPOSE

The 75th PA Infantry was composed almost entirely of German-speaking residents of Philadelphia and newly arrived German immigrants. Total enrollment, over the course of the Civil War, was 1,293 officers and men. The German-speaking troops were made the scapegoats for the Union defeat at Chancellorsville.
An historian of the Civil War maintained that there were, in total, 176,800 German troops to the Union side. See the document attached.

The purpose of this project is to bring together as many members of the 75th as possible.
