The Acadians of North America portal is here to facilitate those researching ancestors or relatives identified as Acadian descendants from the French who settled in the New France colony of Acadia during the 17th and 18th centuries.

We encourage everyone with a link to the Acadian culture to communicate and explore a common ancestry.

From the earliest establishment of the French-speaking settlers in the territory called “Acadia,” to the events leading up to their tragic deportation beginning in 1755 and including today's vibrant Acadian heritage, this thematic collection presented recounts the early history of one particular group of a North American thriving culture, that maintains their French language and culture in a bilingual setting and continue to add to their story up to today.
