The Wilderness Chapel, or the Alexander Chapel was built shortly after the death of William Jones Lacy in 1884 by Major Horace Lacy of Chatham in Fredericksburg and Ellwood in Orange. It is located on the Ellwood Estate, now owned by the National Park Service, on Route 720 off Route 20 in Orange County. The chapel fell to ruin in circa 1970, with just the vestibule left standing.
