This merchant family most probably originated in Westphalia. Several representatives of the family were high-ranking guild members in Riga.
It appears that during the 1600s, one branch of the family was ennobled (see Der Adel der russischen Ostseeprovinzen. T. 2, Der nichtimmatrikulirte Adel).
- the merchant Wilhelm Borgentrik seems to have been an early supporter of the Reformation, particularly of Hermann Marsow, in Livonia
- Hans Borgentreich, Aeltester der Gr. Gilde in Riga
- Peter Borgentreich, Aeltester der Brauerkompanie in Riga
- Daniel Bergentreich (Borgentreich), Swedish officer during the Great Northern War
Various records name family members that are hard to place within the family tree:
- Werner/Warner Börgentreich (baptism witness for Henrich Meyer in 1704
- Barbara Dorotea Borgentreich (wife of Johan Hansson Ållon in the 1640s)
- Margarethe Wittenberg (Borgentreich)
