The origin of the Caralde family is unclear as the earliest known ancestor of this family can be traced back to Don Sebastián Caralde (fl. 1680's), of Barrio Taal, Quingua (now separated as Pulilan), Bulacan, husband of Doña María Yari. It is believed that Sebastián's father was possibly named Caral (his surname possibly starts with "de"), a Dutch or Batavian soldier who invaded the Philippine Islands during the Battles of La Naval de Manila in 1646, and was then taken as prisoner of war before finally being released and settled in Bulacan. It is also possible that Sebastián's father was a Filipino native, who was not possibly surnamed Caralde.
