This project is designed to amalgamate profiles of people who migrated to California as a result of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl or other Depression-related reasons. These migrants were immortalized in John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath", but in fact that fictional work did not accurately describe the reasons for the migration that took place. There is an excellent summary of the phenomenon and its causes here:

Of particular interest, of course, are the life stories of these migrants - where they came from, why they left, and how they did upon arriving and integrating into the California of the 1930's and afterwards.
