(I'm working on a genealogy project for a friend. She is Trinidadian, but looking into where her family came from in India. I mentioned Bombay (Mumbai), Madras (Chennai) and Calcutta (Kolkata) as three main cities--British centers--of emigration in the 1830s. She is researching the Ramdial surname. Labels: 1830s, Bombay, Calcutta, India, Madras, Ramdial, Trinidad.)
In upcoming weeks, we'll talk more about the main cities in India and other South Asian countries that Diaspora Indians came from (Calcutta, Bombay, Madras), and some of the islands and countries they settled, such as Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana, Barbados, and Britain.
