Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Bethany C.M.E., New Zion Missionary Baptist Church and St. Matthews Baptist, were Black Church congregations that had associated cemeteries
These are historic cemeteries located in Clearwater Heights, Florida that were "removed" for redevelopment after 1950. Though a plan to move the approximately 550 burials was promoted, in practice a few burials were moved, and the remainder of graves were left behind with any markers removed.
A public School, a segregated Public Swimming Pool and an expansion of South Missouri Ave. were built atop the graves left behind after the supposed removal of several cemeteries.
The City of Clearwater is working to create a plan to address the desecrated cemeteries and honor the graves of those left unmarked.
