
The Governor of the Bank of Canada is chief executive officer and the chairman of the board of directors of the Bank of Canada; the incumbent governor is Stephen S. Poloz, who assumed the office on June 3, 2013. Poloz was formerly the head of Export Development Canada. The governor is appointed by the Minister of Finance, with the advice of the bank's board of directors and the approval of the Governor in Council. This project also includes the Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada.
Roles and responsibilities
- Hold the bank's capital (one hundred thousand shares) on behalf of Her Majesty in right of Canada.
- The governor and deputy governor sign each series of Canadian banknotes.
- The Governor is ex-officio the Alternate voter on the IMF.
