Introduction

An attempt to create trees for all the earliest Greisch records I could locate in the Luxembourg section of www.FamilySearch.org.

The ideal is that ongoing research might enable one to eventually merge some of these trees into larger ones.

Different languages create very specific challenges

The records available on www.FamilySearch.org are often in German or in French, but sometimes also in Latin. Below are a few examples of how the same individual might be named, depending on whether the source is Latin, German or French. This makes the matching of identical profiles quite challenging.

Anna, Anne

Catharina, Catherine;

Jois, Joannes, Jean;

Franciscus, Francois;

Wilhelmus, Guillaume;

Margaretha, Marguerite;

Maria, Marie;

Nicolai, Nicolaus, Nicolas;

Petrus, Peter, Pierre
