Profiles

There are several very well researched Hochheiser and Hochhauser lineages, but not all have been joined to the others and it's not clear which lineages are connected within the genealogical time period. This surname project documents those lineages as an aid to people researching their possible connections.

Hochhauser and Hochheiser Lineages at Geni

Only the founder of each patrilineal surname lineage is typically listed. The Y-haplogroup of each founder is given in curly brackets, as determined by DNA testing a patrilineal descendant. This list is not complete.

DNA Testing

Y-DNA testing, and autosomal DNA testing for closer relatives, can be used to determine which of the known Hochhauser/Hochheiser lineages have a common patrilineal ancestor within the genealogical time period. For each of the founders above, their profile has a "DNA" tab with a link in the Y-DNA section for "View a list of living people who can be tested for Y-DNA that should match." This will display a list of living patrilineal descendants who could be tested to determine the Y-haplogroup of the lineage founder.

Founders who have unrelated Y-haplogroups are unrelated. Founders with related Y-haplogroups may be related, and how closely related they are can be estimated by analyzing the Y-DNA test results. The most popular company for performing Y-DNA testing as of Jan 2017 is [[http://www.familytreedna.com Family Tree DNA], and their Y-67 test is a good choice. My Heritage has also announced they will offer y-DNA and some time in 2017 it will be possible to also link their test results to a Geni profile.

Y-DNA test results performed at Family Tree DNA can be linked to the tested person's profile here at Geni (instructions are here). This will automatically also display that Y-haplogroup on the lineage founder's profile. As of January 2017, none of the Hochheiser/Hochhauser descendants of the founders list above have done this yet.

Other Notes

Eli Wolf Hochhauser's daughter Malka married Zev Wolf Hochhauser's grandson Shumel (Shmiel Lieb) Hochhauser, so it seems likely that Ali Wolf and Zev were related in some way.

In the book Hitler's Will (here or here) by Herman Rothman, he writes, "Mr Hochhauser [of Berlin] had eighteen children.... ...the Hochhauser family had managed to escape Nazi Germany for London, where they set up a successful bookshop in Stamford Hill." Who was "Mr. Hochhauser?"
