I1-Z140,Z14/S440 comes off the main I1-M253 Z58 -> Z62 branch. It then divides into five main branches, Y6231+, A196+, A1374+, F2642+ and Z2535+ If you are positive for an SNP down one branch, you cannot be positive for an SNP down another. If in doubt ask an Admin. You can test most individual SNPs at YSEQ.net, and a few at FTDNA.
Y6231+ Branch includes subgroups [15] [16] and [17]
A196+ Branch includes subgroups [05] [06] and the Y6900+ Branch that leads to subgroups [11] [03a] [03b]
A1374 Branch includes subgroup [04]
All the Z140* subgroups were previously defined by STR markers in 2011 by William.
