Profiles

This project seeks to list representatives of all of the Jewish families from the Moravian town of Písečné (Piesling) in the Czech Republic.

Earliest known Jewish community was 1700. 1930 Jewish population was 14. The Jewish community ceased in 1890. Michael Lazar Cohn, +1893, rabbi; Dr. Michael Holzmann, writer lived here. The Jewish cemetery originated in beginning of 18th century with last known Conservative Jewish burial before 1942.

The article Geschichte der Juden in Piesling by Rudolf Hruschka in Hugo Gold's Die Juden und Judengemeinden Mährens in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart (1929), pages 457-476, contains a great wealth of genealogical and biographical data (perhaps more than any other town in Hugo Gold's two books on Bohemia and Moravia).
