Before the establishment of modern Ukraine, the town was part of the Ukraine SSR province of the Soviet Union, and before that the Kiev province of the Russian Empire. Alternative spellings include Illintsi [Ukr], Ilintsy [Rus], Linitz [Yid], Ilince or Ilińce [Pol], Lince, Lintz, Illinci, Iljincy, Linits, and Illintsy.

About Linitiz

The JewishGen Kehilalinks website for Illinti/Linitz provides some excellent historical information about the town.

The nearest city to Linitz is Vinnytsia, about 33 miles to the west. The town of Lypovets, about 11 miles northwest, is sometimes shown on 19th century maps when Illintsi is not. Jewish families of Linitz may have had relatives living in those places too.
