The municipality covers an area of 19.83 square kilometres, and has a population of 746. Polnička lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) north of Žďár nad Sázavou, 34 km (21 mi) north-east of Jihlava, and 120 km (75 mi) south-east of Prague. The geographic coordinates are 49 36' 0" North, 15 55' 0" East.
