For people who have tested and are assigned the paternal Y-DNA haplogroup K-M9 or who are believed to have had that paternal haplogroup based on descendants tested.

To participate in this project, join or follow the project, add your oldest known ancestor who belonged to this haplogroup, & yourself. The profile must be set to public in order to add it.

TIP: If you know your Y-DNA Progenitor father, Jeff Gentes' wonderful History Link App provides a way to check if there are others on the Geni tree who share him with you: + 'Ancestor Graph' ( top right) + Little boxed face in the middle, next to your name, & change the person to your Y-DNA PROG's profile link + Change the box options below to '15 Generations to Display'; 'Descendants' & 'Y-DNA' + 'Build Graph' (green box, top right) + Choose the 'Status' circle option - as this will show you which of his descendants are also Geni users (claimed profiles). (Or see the HIstory Link Project)

Origins

Y-DNA haplogroup K-M9 is an old lineage established approximately 40,000-50,000 years ago whose origins were probably in Southwestern Asia, South Eastern Asia, or South Asia. At present this group contains two distinct classes of subgroups: 1. Haplogroup LT 2. Haplogroup K(xLT. Today haplogroup K-M9 is only in four states M9, P128, P131, P132. The others are descending mutations are ancestral to the descendant haplogroups (L,M,NO,P,S,T) within haplogroup K-(LT)in addition to that there are also the mutations that define the descendant haplogroups in paragroup K (K1-K4). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_K-M9
