"Koasek" is the name of one of the bands or subgroups of the Abenaki tribe, located in what is now New England. The name Koasek (also spelled goasek or kowasek) means "people by the white pines" in the Abenaki language. Descendants of the Koasek Abenakis live in many places today, but especially in Vermont and Massachusetts.

Spelling of the tribe's name varies: Is Cowasuk one variation?
See, for instance, part of the Pennacook tribe. Cowass in Abenaki is "Coo-ash-auke," meaning "place of pine trees," and was a general name these people gave to the upper Connecticut River Valley and Lakes region = the Newbury location in VT
