The purpose of this project is to collect people with the L2 haplogroupl L2 is the most common African haplogroup and is observed all over the African continent. In fact, L2 is found in approximately one third of Africans and their descendants. There are 5 main subgroups of L2: L2a, L2b, L2c, L2d and L2e, the most common being L2a.
L2a is also somewhat frequent in the Americas, at 19% among descendants of Africans (Salas et al, 2002). The origin of L2a is approximately 48,000 YBP.
