Profiles

Hinda Chaja Lerche, born about 1868 in Końskowola, married Dawid Hersz Kuperberg on 11 Mar 1898 in Końskowola. Her father was Dawid Jojel (Jöel) Lerche, born on 1 Jan 1835 in Lublin. Dawid's father was Moszek Yitzhak Lerche, born about 1799. Moszek had at least 13 children by three wives, so he may rightfully be regarded as the patriarch of the Lublin Lerche clan. It is possible to go back one generation further and designate Szmul Fiszel Lerche, born about 1762 in Zwoleń as the father of Moszek.

Moszek Lerche was a moneylender, as well as a prolific father. He inherited his talent for finance from his father, Szmul, who was an innkeeper. He passed down the talent to his granddaughter, Hinda, who was a shop owner.

Lerche family members are links to a number of other families: the Oberman family in England, the Golker, Aspis, Szwarc, Topper, and Bek families, and others.

Update:

Hinda Chaja Lerche had at least three siblings: Yitzhak Noach Lerche (1860-1925), Chaim Noach Lerche (1878-1943), and Brandla Lerche (1861-). Chaim Noach Lerche had (at least) nine children, most of whom perished in the Holocaust. Brandla Lerche married Izrael Dawid Rozenblat in Końskowola in 1886, and had two children, Moszek (1892-) and Rywka (1896-).

A mystery is what happened to Josef "Max" Lerche. He was born in 1910 in Lubartow, to Chaim Noach Lerche and Ruchla Laja, née Nirenberg. It is known that he was alive as late as 1957, when he visited the U.S.A. He was the owner of a store, or chain of stores, in Belgium at that time. But, the project manager has been unable to retrieve any records of him.
