1888

The London detectives are inquiring into a case which looks very much like murder. There came home by the "Ormuz" a steerage passenger of the name of King, booking from Sydney. On leaving the ship at the docks he was accompanied by a stowaway, and they were afterwards seen together at a railway terminus booking for the North by a fireman who got into the same carriage with them. A little further along the journey the fire man changed carriages and joined some Scotch friends, whom he had recognized. The fireman left the stowaway and King together in the carriage, and 2 miles oat of the station King's body was found on the line, stone dead, with the top of his head cut off by a train. The police are now making careful inquiries after the stowaway, who has disappeared from the scene of action.
