All welcome and encouraged to help us collate the Mac or McDonalds in Jamaica in the 1700s and 1800s. This is a Work in Progress long-term project, and will require lots of help from interested parties. Nobody is going to nitpick about formatting - give it a go - others will fix for you if you need it - and you can do the same for them.

Alexander McDonald (c1821-)

  • Sarah Vashonregistered an enslaved person in Port Royal, Jamaica, as guardian to Rebecca Stanfield and Alexander McDonald in 1829. She had previously registered the same person as "natural guardian to her children". Rebecca Stanfield was certainly her daughter. A baptism hasn't been found for Alexander McDonald with the mother's name given as Sarah Vashon; however, Sarah had a son with the surname Procter, son of Leonard Proctor of His Majesty's Navy, in 1798, and there is an Alexander McDonald, "free mustifino" son of Mary Proctor, born and baptised in Port Royal in 1821.

Robert Henry McDonald (-1831)

  • 1801 - 1831 → MORTGAGE HOLDER on Clermont Estate [ Jamaica | Trelawney ]
  • Mortgagee of the Clermont estate in Trelawney Jamaica, who died in 1831: the compensation for the estate was partly paid to McDonald's executors the Rev. William Smoult Temple and Thomas Wilkinson (both of whom q.v.). He was the son of Dr William McDonald (q.v.) of Trelawney. Clermont was shown in 1776 against 'Dr Vincent McDonald', possibly the Vincent William McDonald effectively disinherited (save for £100) in the will of Robert Henry McDonald's father Dr William McDonald proved in 1783.
  • Will of Robert Henry McDonald of Saint Oswald Durham proved 14/10/1831. In the will, McDonald left monetary legacies to, among others, the daughters of Cossley Hall of Trelawney Jamaica, suggesting links with Jamaica beyond the mortgage of Clermont: the residual legatees were his nephew James Henry Dixon, Robert William Dixon and Edward Dixon.
