The Great Lake State, The Wolverine State, The Mitten State, Water, Winter Wonderland are a few nicknames for the State of Michigan.

State Motto: If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you.

  • State Rock: Petoskey
  • State Bird: Robin
  • State Mammals: Wolverine and the Whitetail Deer
  • State Tree: Eastern White Pine

When you ask a Lower Peninsula "Michigander" where we are from, do not be suprised when we raise one of our hands and point to where we live on our hand, as we live in the State that is uniquely shaped like a hand. Likewise, an Upper Peninsula dweller may reply that they are a "Yooper"

Many Michiganders are of Canadian Ancestry, and if while speaking to us we say "Eh" after our sentences, do not let that bother you, its a Canadian/ Michigan thing.

We Love Ground Bologna sandwiches and Pasties. and Hunting Whitetail Deer and Fishing. We Love Hockey, Baseball and Football.

In Michigan: We drink pop, not soda. Mosquitos are as big as a Bird. Up North is the Upper Peninsula. You can travel to Paradise and Hell and not leave the State. You can experience Sun, Rain, Sleet and Snow, all in the same day. Michiganders often say: "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes".

Hearty Souls are we.
