This site is dedicated to the sailing Ship The Bombay and her voyage from London, England in November 1864 to Auckland, New Zealand. After battling fierce storms, losing sail and mast she finally arrived into harbour, battered, wrecked and under tow of the warship HMS Curacao. The epic journey, challenging even today for experienced yachtsman with modern Navigation and Telecommunication aides, was at the time of Victorian England a daunting prospect, yet four hundred brave souls made the choice to do just that, men, women, children… All seeking a better life in New Zealand.
